I am passionate about unlocking better teaching and learning in face-to-face, blended, and online contexts through my research, my development work, and my role as a teacher educator in higher education.
I have years of experience teaching educational technology in higher education that I apply in my efforts to unlock better teaching and learning. Through teaching positions at the Department of Curriculum and Instruction at Southern Illinois University and the Department of Instructional Systems Technology at Indiana University, I have designed and taught dozens of sections of face-to-face and blended educational technology courses primarily to pre-service teachers. In my last five course evaluations, nearly all of my students (98%) considered me to be an “outstanding” instructor.
As Assistant Director, Educational Development Centre, I directly oversee campus-wide promotion of teaching excellence among Faculty, Contract Instructors, and TAs. Recently, I led the cuOpen initiative that received support from the Ontario Productivity and Innovation Fund. The cuOpen initiative developed and made publicly available a set of blended and online teaching focused resources aimed at institutions looking for ways to help their educators make the shift to teaching in new contexts. I have also overseen the instructional design and development of various new Carleton online courses including six that received support from the Government of Ontario Shared Online Course Fund. My understanding of information technology and managing large projects proved critical as I helped lead Carleton University’s transition to a new learning management system. We earned Carleton’s Service Excellence Award for our efforts and continue to upgrade and enhance our learning management system to provide Carleton educators and learners with a great online learning experience.
